Drops of Jupiter

I'm a 27 year old British woman who would like to be an academic librarian and/or a professional author. I'm currently working as a part-time receptionist and a part-time LRC Assistant. I'm still looking for a graduate library job.

Expect to find a lot of fandom-related things here (mainly anime/manga for now) and whatever else catches my interest.

If you have any (non-personal) questions, please feel free to go ahead and ask.

Photographer Glenn Thomas is doing a short project where he eats his meals vegan, and he eats them cheap. Showing it’s not only possible, but easy. Take that, privilege police.

Okay, where is the seasoning? I know this all may look super tasty but try eating things seasoned by nothing but curry powder for a whole week. Soy sauce and most other sauces are full of gluten and that leaves us celiacs with salt and herbs to make our food interesting and let me tell you, it’s pretty hard to make plain cabbage taste like anything but plain cabbage. The meals may look fancy but I personally need more for food to be labeled tasty, especially if you know you’ll be eating it for the rest of your life.

(not to mention half of these ingredients aren’t available in normal shops in my country but that’s not their problem after all)

Oh all of that.

Not to mention that frozen vegetables lose most of their taste and a fair share of their nutritional content. And they tend to be more expensive than buying fresh ones. o/

(And you really need more than one meal a day.)

Not to mention how long does this stuff take to cook? For a lot of people time also greatly limits their food choices.

I looked at this post and thought fuck I want some steak. Does this make me terrible?

Probably at least 40 minutes (including preparation time - chopping veg, etc.) for the curries. I’d imagine the quickest of these probably takes 15 or 20 minutes but it’s difficult to say without being able to see the recipies.

That said, Glen Thomas seems to be working on the assumptions that everyone willing to try this 1) knows enough about cooking to be able to make these recipies 2) has the time to be able to make these recipies 3) has access to a kitchen with all the equipment they need to make these recipies and 4) has access to a shop which sells the ingredients needed to make these recipies. I’m all for encouraging people to learn how to cook and eat a better diet but there are more issues that need to be considered than just what to buy and how to cook it.

It looks pretty tasty to me but I wouldn’t say no to a steak either.
